In the Carling Cup, this only applies after extra time.
In Europe it applies before extra time, so matches only go into extra time if both teams have scored the same number of away goals. (and of course, the total score is level!)

Consider a match between 2 teams say Arsenal and Barcelona who are competing in a tournament say Champions League over a 2 legged tie. Suppose the first match is at London(Arsenal being the home team). Consider the game has ended 1-1. In the return leg (with Barcelona being the home side) suppose the match finishes at 2-2. In this case the away goals rule comes into action. Now you count which of the 2 sides has scored more goals away from home. Arsenal has scored 2(in the match at Barcelona) whereas Barcelona has scored 1(in the match at the Emirates Stadium in London). Like this, the team which scores more away goals in a 2-legged fixture is declared the winner if the aggregate score of both teams is same after the 2 matches are over.

the away goals will be used if both matches ended in draws. the team which scored more away goals in those two matches will progress to the next stage of a competition.

here is an example from the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions' League knock-out stage:

1st match - Glasgow Rangers 2-2 Villareal SC
2nd match - Villareal SC 1-1 Glasgow Rangers

from the above, both teams has scored 3 goals over two matches but in some competitions, like the UEFA Champions' League, the away goal rules will be used to decide the outcome. away goal means any goal scored by the away team is consider as double. so, Villareal SC scored 2 away goals while Glasgow Rangers scored only 1 goal & Villareal SC progress on away goals rule.

if after both legs teams are tied 1-1and both goals were scored on that day then the team playing at home would lose on the away goals rule because there aggregate would be 1-2.this is so because if it is tied the away teams goal count as double

I thought that was the rule in the Carling Cup as well, but obviously not. you would be best to follow the CIS Cup up here in Scotland and have every round as a single game with extra time and penalties on the night. It means teams go for it in every game and you don`t get teams playing for a draw away from home knowing their own home form will see them through.

it seems like she has some self-asteem issues. I have to say that it reminds me a lot of my sister, she got mad at any and every person who walks into the room for interrupting her when she's reading in the living room (a place where everybody is allowed to be) and would huff and puff and sometimes yell and then go to her room and slam her door.... really, if she wanted to read in peace, that's where she should be in the frist place... She ended up needing a lil medication to settle her down. It may be early signs of depression or bipolar or maybe a problem with her thyroid. The best thing for you to do is talk to her calmly but don't make her feel guilty about things because then she won't talk to you at all. It may be time to let her know just how very much she is loved by doing something very special for her as a suprise, and let her bf in on it as well, she may realize just how mean she has been and that she really doesn't want to treat you that way and needs help. It's a very touchy place to be, and what makes it harder is that she seems on edge with even a hello. I suggest maybe calling a doctor who has a history of dealing with depression and other mental problems and telling him how she's acting, he may give you some pointers on how to deal with it. Just remember, she really may not want to act the way she does. And also, just because she has some mental issues, it doesn't make her a bad person and it isn't her fault. It's a chemical imbalance and should be taken care of just like any other medical problem that comes up without fault to the person. She doesn't realize how unresonable she's acting because that's what her brain is telling her.

Yes thats correct, but depending on the competition its in, for example the carling cup, if its a draw then they play extra time first then take into account the away goals if its still a draw.

I thought the same as you - not sure why the Gooners had to play extra time and win all over again! v (Spurs)
