I've been to Europe many times, especially England, France, Germany, Netherlands, etc. and have never seen such racism in my life. From the way Indians and blacks are treated, to anti-Americanism and anti-semitism. It's very disturbing. Have things in Europe always been this way or has something recently brought this on? Certainly racism exist in the US too, but people in Europe seem so open and vulgar about it. They seem to have no shame about calling someone a "paki" in public. I had never even heard of this term before I went to Europe. Do recent immigrants, the sad state of the Europe economy and welfare system play a part in this at all?

Europeans are so racist, because if it is not so obvious, Europe is the birth place of fascism, Nazism, xenophobia. Also where ever Europeans tend to migrate and settle, they is ALWAYS some form of racism and discrimination. FACT!

Not all Europeans are racist, but I understand what you're saying. When the Europeans first came to America what did they do? They started to refer to the Natives as inferior and uneducated. Soon the Natives where pushed off their land or made into slaves (where many of them died of diseases brought from Europe by the Europeans). And then, after the Native slaves started dying, they went to Africa and brought African slaves to the America's. Now they did all of this while referring to themselves as Christians. Oh, and lets not forget about how Europeans messed up Africa, killed the natives of Australia, and took over the Indian sub-continent. And their where problems in Europe itself. You remember the Gypsies of Spain, or the Jews of Germany and Eastern Europe? They were also mistreated by the Europeans because they were different and unique. I'm sorry. I'm rambling. Anyway, although all Europeans aren't this way, it's sad that Europe and Europeans profited so long off of mistreating other human-beings. If their is a higher power, I hope it judged those people accordingly.

Where do you think racism originated from? That's right! Europe and more specifically in England.

Everybody should read this book:
Race in North America: Origin and Evolution of a Worldview" by Audrey Smedley (she is a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University)

"Book Description
In a sweeping work tracing the idea of race for more than three centuries, Audrey Smedley shows that "race" is a cultural invention that has been used variously and opportunistically since the eighteenth century. Race was not a product of science but a folk classification reflecting a new form of social stratification and a rationalization for inequality among the peoples of North America. This second edition adds new materials to some early chapters and expands its coverage of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with additional analyses of science's role in the preservation of race ideology through IQ tests, the rise of Nazi race ideology, and the beginning disintegration of the racial worldview after World War II. The first edition was named a 1994 Outstanding Book on Human Rights in North America by the Gustavus Myers Center."

I don't know about England and France, but racism tends to be prevalent in Germany.

BBC news reports (link below):
Germany has reported a 40% increase in racist attacks as a new survey shows that almost every second young East German thinks that the Nazi regime "had its good side".

Maybe they are still bitter from WWII...but I'm not saying ALL Germans are racist.

European nations are ethnic to an extent - the land of a certain tribe or tribes. In the back of many Euro minds is the notion that "this land belongs to us", us being a ethnic and cultural idea. In America, everyone is an immigrant so we have a harder time getting away with this kind of thinking.

The major problem with Europe right now is their lack of racism, which is causing them to let in hordes of non-white people who are changing Europe for the worse. Racism is a natural and healthy human characteristic, which helps to preserve the genetics, culture, and traditions of society. Racism only becomes unhealthy if it leads to emotions of hate.
