How much do Starters on this kind of car cost? I was told by a shop that for a new starter it would cost around 300-400 dollars, but I have been told my one of the car parts stores that the have a "new" one for about $120. Can someone help me with this?!

You didn't say what year it was. I have a 1990 Sentra. AutoZone wants $119 plus a $45 core charge (you get that back when you give them your old starter) for one. It lists it as a new one. One of the local mechanics tried to tell me the starter would run me $340. Whatever. Some shops will tack on a chunk of money to the parts they buy, figuring you'll never know the difference. it's why I always buy the parts myself and take them in.

Call around to the parts stores in your area and just ask.

You see, the shop you went to is going to buy that starter, or a cheaper one, and sell it to you for about $200 more. And I'm afraid that's standard practice in the repair industry.

Advice: Buy your own.
