I remember reading an article about 2 years ago, possibly in Playboy magazine, about famous literary feuds. One of the feuds covered was Dave Eggers vs. James Frey. Can't find anything about the article anymore, but I recall details, namely the one in the subject line here, that I can't find anywhere else. Does anyone know about either the article or the Beth Eggers thing?

Frey is famous for criticizing Eggers' memoirs, saying they were overrated and that he (Frey) would eventually be much more famous. It fits in with Frey's style that he would also bring Beth Eggers' death into it, but I could not find any evidence that he did.
