Shannon ... Excellent question. Congressman Tancredo has an uphill fight. ALL the candidates are struggling at this point to get to the proverbial "head of the pack."
I've seen him appear on several nationally-telecast news/discussion programs. He comes across very well, of course, and I hope he can advance and have a chance to be more widely known.
As your question mentions, I also wonder about the impact of the media. You know, you used to be able to turn on the news and get just the news. Now, though, for reasons unknown to me, you also get a large dose of bias and commentary.
Once in a while, the network newscasts sometimes included a guest commentator ... someone who delivered comments and opinions about matters in the headlines. I'm referring to the distant past, though. Now many so-called journalists deliver the news with so much of their personal feelings very apparent, some easily-influenced people are getting these "vibes" and have skipped thinking for themselves.
Additionally, many programs appearing on the 24-hour news channels are ONLY commentary. In some cases these discussion/debate programs are helping to inform the public. But some are BLATANTLY biased and some viewers who don't know the difference between objective reporting and these debate format programs are walking away very mis-informed.
Not only for Tom Tancredo, but I worry for all the candidates. You know how they have disclaimers appearing at the beginning of some programs? They say, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven gulilty."
Well, these other programs that are not true news presentations should ALSO have a disclaimer: "This presentation is not a news program. The views and opinions expressed may have no relation to the facts surrounding the events discussed." Something like that.
I hope I addressed your question. I wish good luck to Congressman Tancredo and thanks for the quesiton.

Tom Tancredo scares people... because he feels no need to hide his beliefs and convictions. I've yet to meet a true conservative that doesn't like him, but you're right... I think a lot of people that would support him are going to jump on the bandwagon of whoever the "popular" conservative nominee is.
I think the negativity in the press will hurt his chances. The question isn't how conservatives or liberals will vote... we already know that. The question is how the UNDECIDEDS will vote - and all the claims of racism and bigotry against him will sway many that are unsure of their stance and convictions to begin with. Nothing more dangerous than an uninformed voter. If you don't know the candidates, do us all a favor and either get educated or stay home.
But... he does have MY vote.

I live in Colorado and think Tancredo is a long shot at best. While I agree with Tancredo's views on immigration, I am NOT a "neo-con". I have been a conservative for 30 years and resent the derogatory use of the term.

I haven't made a decision about Tom Tancredo yet. Negative coverage by much of the media is a plus in my book.

it incredibly is not sufficient to make unlawful immigration a campaign subject. Tancredo could articulate what his plan for curtailing unlawful immigration is. If he can gain this, many human beings, i'm beneficial, even people who're sympathetic to the plight of unlawful immigrants, will vote for him.

There has been no media bias, Tancredo is the one who declared places like Miami a" third world" country. Well I guess it is the first time a "third world" country will host the Super Bowl. The media did not put words in his mouth, they did not spin it. He did that himself.

If he runs I will not only vote for him, I will donate money and time.
“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

I don't find the media credible as a rule and if he runs, I will research him, his policies and his positions on issues. So, no, the media bias won't effect my vote for any candidate.

I would vote for him and I consider myself more of a liberal than a conservative. I can't stand Bush.
