Islamic extremists literally live in every country in the world, including America. The terrorists we’re fighting in Iraq represent a small percentage of the whole. Consequently, our military presence in Iraq does not in any way prevent or discourage other terrorists’ activities or plots elsewhere in the world.

Terrorism can only be fought with strategic police work. America must pool their resources and highly-sophisticated tools used by the FBI and CIA and network this information with other similar police agencies worldwide. Through a cooperative effort, we could strategically overcome terrorism in two ways. First we could locate and eliminate sleeper cells. Second, we could cut their money supply. Their funds are not hidden in caves; they’re sitting in banks around the world. We have the global technology to locate their funds, freeze the accounts and choke off their blood money. Without money they cannot operate. Bullets will never end nor prevent terrorism; police work can.

excellent observation.

police work (not war) is the answer to keeping terrorism out of the us.

all of the 'successes' we've had at stopping terrorist plots since 9/11 have been because of good police/intelligence work.

Umm yes and I will tell you why. Radical islam is an idea, but it can be destroyed. Because it is an idea we have to treat it like a disease since it spreads like one. A person can only become radical if talking to another radical or if they are exposed to a radical medium. The solution though doesn't just involve bullets. First start killing anyone who believes in radical islam. You can use bullets, missles, melee weapons, or even your bare hands. Then destroy or lockdown any medium that transmits their message. This includes radio stations, TV stations, web sites, and off course and especially mosques. I know your saying that would be immoral but terrorism is a disease. Bullets are simply the lazeing(like the action used by our own leukocytes) action of the immune system of democracy. You need to think. If we keep killing them they will eventually run out of people. Once we've killed about 20,000,000 terrorists I would say that we've won. Don't forget ideologies have been defeated before just think of the Japanesse in WWII.

Bullets and bargaining were tried neither worked. Covert action will not either.

Ideology is conquered by a replacement ideology.

This takes time, commitment, honesty or an appearance of such and a belief that the target will benefit from it.

Not necessarily money, usually it means a feeling of being respected and of being heard.

Sounds trivial, but it's true.

Period.
Evil can spread.

I agree!

Bullets will never stop terrorism, but as long as they keep the fighting in someone elses country and thereby give the authorities crucial time to locate and eradicate the sleeper cells and their sources of funds, then its all good by me!

That theory is only to appease the minds of the timid and easily swayed, to be more blunt '"HELL NO"..The instant that a terrorist or group of same, decide to kill people in a particular fashion, and made up their minds for self-sacrifice, there's not much can be done, except hope you are not on their intended victim list

Nope, bullets will never kill or prevent terrorism ultimately. Only do honest business with people with those countries will work. Unfortunately, we've never done honest business with these countries or treated their people fairly. We've proped up cruel and horrible dictators and despots who treat their people horribly.

I agree. We need a covert force to fight a covert enemy. We need covert actions to restrict their movements. We also need to realize that terrorists don't come under the protection of the U.S. constitution.
