multiply the 2x by all terms in the parenthesis.
(2x)(x^2) = 2x^3
(2x)(-4x) = -8x^2
(2x)(7) = 14x
so you have 2x^3-8x^2+14x

distributive property = expanding brackets

2x(x^2 – 4x + 7)
= 2x^3 - 8x^2 +14x
