If f(x) = 5x -1 find the following of f( a - 2)?

replace x in the original function with a-2

so f(a-2) = 5(a-2) - 1
= 5a-10-1
=5a-11

f(x) = 5x - 1
and therefore:-
f(a-2) = 5(a - 2) - 1 = 5a - 10 - 1 = 5a - 11

Just do this:
f(a-2)=5(a-2)-1
=5a-10-1
=5a-11
