If your transmission is shifting ok, your probably wasting your time and money installing a vss sensor. there were some problems with certain year model Impala`s concerning inop speedometers. need to have it diagnoised correctely.

The location of the speed sensor as follows: Look at the pass side cv axle where it goes into the transmission. It is located on top about 6" further in & slightly tilted toward the back side.

First of all, what sensor did you buy? Why did you buy it? Was there a code in one of the computer modules? Did anyone test the VSS? This vehicle uses a VSS mounted in the transmission case near the right axle. This signal circuit is used to feed 3 modules. Because of the lack of explaination I have to assume that you have a code stored in the PCM for VSS signal circuit malfunction. If there are no codes, for a lack of VSS signal and you do not have a check engine light on, and your transmission shifts properly chances are your going to need an IPC. Hope this helps.

The best thing you could do is to get yourself a service manual from an auto part store. Auto zone or advance auto type stores will have them. Then you will have it for any other repair. They are usualy under $30
