affirmative action in theory was helpful to stop discrimination, the problem is now companies have to hire a certain percentage of minorities regardless of whether or not they are qualified to do the work.

The major con:
If an caucasian is better qualified or skilled to perform a job than a minority applying for the same position, the caucasian may get passed over in exchange for someone that doesn't do as good a job. This is racial discrimination against whites and just as bad as the same actions against minorities.
Also, if this job is something vital, say, a position in the medical profession, what happens if a minority doctor is not able to perform a life-saving operation that a caucasian doctor could perform with greater proficiency? There are more moral issues than just racism involved in affirmative action.

The biggest con I can think of is that affirmative action tends to curtail merit for performance. If a white male goes above and beyond the call of duty trying to earn a promotion and a woman or a minority are up for the same position, the one whose work has earned that promotion will get passed over in favor of a tax break.
Also, on a more socialized front, affirmative action and political correctness are tools devised to combat racism and sexism. Unfortunately, all they do is force racists and sexists into hiding. It's far easier to fight an enemy we can see.

Affirmative action is bad cause it changes the poor to getting help and getting the money they give it to the minoritys and all the spots for college. So what if you poor and you cant go to college, thats what they think its better to have someone that is a minority because it make their business look great.

I believe the idea of Arrirmative action was good, but in actual practice it has become a joke.
