Clearly you have no idea what the FISA law is.

It actually provided the first real limits on the authority of the president to spy by establishing a special court that had to be used to get permission.

Prior to that (say, in the Nixon administration), the president would just use government agencies to spy on anyone, including political opponents.

The permission of the FISA court is quite easy to come by, and in fact you are allowed to spy first, and get permission later. Why Bush wants to toss out even this basic safeguard is beyond me. Basically, what he's proven he wants is absolute right to spy on anyone at any time for any reason without any check on this power. That sure sounds like a dangerous precedent to me. After all, you may trust Bush, but would you trust President Hillary with this power? Personally, I wouldn't trust either one.

FISA is a secret court, not an agency. FBI is assigned to handle domestic affairs.

If any president feels it necessary to use FISA to gain permission to spy on certain Americans it's ok with me because at least they USED a court.

No way- my dad's one of the most brilliant, if religiously brain-washed, people I've ever met, at least along political lines. And his detective skills are better than most.
So when his far-fetched conspiracy theories started to become at least partially true...
Bush uses this terrorism to spy on us in every sense.
Mexicans use 10,000 fake kidnappings (70% = 7,000?) perpetrated by the government itself, to convince the people that they need the chip implanted in us.
We have chips in dead bodies in New Orleans and LIVE dogs and other pets since the hurricane hit.
We can put car locators on our vehicles for when our teemagers borrow our cars.
We use GPS and Tom-Tom and whatever, and cell phones and EZ-Pass (which helped a wife catch a cheating husband when he crossed abridge he didn't need if his alibi for the night had been true!)...
We are used to the notion that there are cameras on so many US street corners...
We watch countless cop shows (which I love) in which it is such a miracle that this sort of BIG BROTHER catches the crooks...
You're asking me to be surprised?
And if the government actually tries to force me into not only the national ID card, but the chip going in my forehead or wrist,
I'll swear off every rational thought I ever had and believe in Jesus and the Armageddon.
Till then, of course,
it's just 1984 all over again, and I'm non-theist and relatively sane.

You forgot the last part of that sentence:

WITH A COURT ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what got everyone's BVDs in a bunch, Bush refusing to get warrants for spying on Americans. FISA allows you to do so up to a point, but due process must be adhered to after that point. Bush wanted the power to decide himself who to spy on for how long and without any oversight. FISA provides that oversight.

Sorry to bust up a good argument with pesky little facts.

Do you really think that there has ever been a time when a President didn't order someone to spy on Americans?

Oh, so that's what freed the hostages in Iran?

Gee, here I've thought Carter left that in Reagan's lap all these years! ;-)
