Yes, loneliness is a choice. One can feel lonely and alone in a crowd of people, Feeling that no one really cares for them is what brings on the thoughts of being alone. This may be true or it may not be so, but the loneliness persists until one feels accepted by the members around him/her, such as family coworkers, or members of an organization.

In the sense that we all have the power to choose whether or not to feel yes it is a choice, but realistically speaking even though we can control our feelings that doesn't mean they aren't there. So I would say loneliness is not a choice in that aspect. Everyone feels lonely when put in the situation of being alone for a significant amount of time. Sometimes people are lonely because they truly can't connect with the people around them. Loneliness is not only about being around people but it also deals with connecting with the people you are around. You can be entertained by the people you are around but still feel unfulfilled. Sometimes people are coincidently alone on an emotional level and they don't really have a choice. Maybe it is a choice in the sense that they can go out and try to meet people who they can connect with but that doesn't necessarily mean it will actually happen. The time before they meet people they can connect with leaves them alone and therefore they don't necessarily have the choice.

Loneliness is not a choice, much like how the flu is not a choice. People become lonely because they unknowingly want more gratification or acknowledgement from other people. This wanting comes like an illness, and if delved into, can turn into depression or acts of suicide. However, it is also an evolutionary instinct, if we were separated from our group or tribe then we would most likely die alone in the wilderness.

MOST everything in life is a choice... Only rare cases of loneliness are due in part because of depression.

Yes and no. Some people choose to be lonely because they do not want to deal with other people or have a lousy attitude that people won't want to be bothered with them. Some people have a phobia about being around other pepole or are just extremely shy.

depends..sometimes it is since you get the chance to be with people and you deny their company. on the other hand, some persons are unlucky and never have the chance to be with someone...then its a necessary evil, not a choice
