I have a VW polo 1998 1.4 petrol, R.reg. Bought in July 2006 at an auction. Great car... but had a slight problem on the 1st month. oil leak - replaced a "sump" and it worked fine. Now... im experiancing a loud noise from the engine... sounds like a tracktor.
It's not only noise, but the engine has loss of power. When im going say 20mph and i put my foot down on the accelerator it sounds like its choking on petrol. Its used to be a fast bugger... but now i get over-taken by sunday drivers!!

Have replaced obvious things - Spark plugs, Distributor cap. No difference. Im goin to replace cable because the probem is getting on my nerves and need to get it done - before it gets worse! If anyone has had/got the same problem please contact me?? and even better.... if you know the problem!!!

in all proaibillity the noise is the exhaust manifold distorted or cracked through excessive heat or gas tracked across the manifold face or the flange where it joins the exhaust use a piece of tube in your ear with the engine running to locate blow reguarding loss of power check valve clearance and peform a compression test and take it from there before replacing anything
