I think it's all a matter of opinion, some would say it sucked because there were too many holes in the plot. Others would say they were great, personally I liked all 6 films.

The story lines were not that bad as a whole; the only exception being Episode I which reeaaally sucked. The reason: It took everything about 4, 5 and 6 and made them into lies. The biggest boo boo was those medachlorines or whatever they are that are supposed to be evident inside people who are strong in the force. Never mentioned later on but they were sooooo important in the prequels...and in Episode I, the age difference between Padme and Annekin is so unbelievable. Finally, Hayden Christensen is such a bad actor that you couldn't get swept up in the fantasy of a galaxy far, far away.

I also agree that George Lucas has become somewhat of a Howard Hughes and is losing a little grip on reality.

done rambling now......................

I also believe it is a matter of opinion. There are things I hate about both trilogies as well as things I love about both. I think that it was kind of stupid for Lucas to start at Episode 4, but the action is 1-3 is awesome and you can't really beat the special effects from the prequels. The acting was a little weird, especially in Episode iII, with Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman "dying of a broken heart"

the problem with a prequel is it has to flow with the story of the latter tales in order for it to mesh well. that's a mighty task if you think about it because ep. 4, 5, 6 are chock full of nerd information that die hard fans will live and die by. i really hated the first three movies. why? the addtion of cutesy characters, the bad script, terrible acting by some of hollywood's more gifted actors(to their credit, i think it's because green screen acting is difficult for actors to do well), and the jumping plot lines that seemed to randomly skip everywhere. what killed the first one was jar jar and the ultra skimpy story. you starts from space station, to planet, to jar jar, to waste station, to speeder race, to jedi council, to space battle, to land battle, to palace battle. all the while throwing information at the audience that doesn't have any right to be there in the first place. the second movie had a much simpler plot, but the script was just too crummy. the third movie was to be the payoff, but produced the weakest ending of them all. but george lucas conned me out of 30 bucks from just these movies. if a quarter of america saw all three movies just once, then the estimated total would be 2,250,000,000 bucks. now think about worldwide!!!

lucas didn't want to give the fans a prequel, he wanted to make a whole bunch of money. and then stare at his globe and say, "SUCKERS"

Well, the first two prequels were rotten, and that is because George Lucas got a big head and decided to do everything himself. The screenplay writing, the directing, the producing... that was his downfall.

Revenge of the Sith was a lot better than the other two, though.

My theory is, Lucas forgot the original story...In episodes 4, 5, and 6, he had already ended the story and when he created 1, 2, and 3, although the effects were better, the story didn't flow with the ending.

You try to write a backstory to fill in what ALREADY exists and see how well you do. Lucas is a genius director. He is so good that he was so successful that he had boxed himself into a corner.
Here's the good news: I read the script for "Episode III" 15 years ago, and what you saw was a HUGE improvement.

I am 33 and have 2 theories:

- I am not 8 like I was then
- Lucas has slowly slipped into a delusional state where he thinks he can 'revise' and 'improve' his older movies and has, in fact, completely lost it.

Both could well be true at the same time.

it does not suck, well maybe it can, but what may suck is that there is no story line, or maybe its too much of a classic, of course the new star wars movies are good, because it has some action. i am not really a star wars fan, but its a movie that i would watch*

they don't suck really. i think one of the problems is the fact that they made the 4th-5th-6th movies first before they made the first three. it jostles things up a bit, but no they don't suck. me, myself, i prefer the last 3 in the trilogy.
