Aren't questions from non-celebrities just as good?

Good point and good question.
Here's an answer for you...only you can judge if its a good answer. Because people think that some celebrity might actually read their answer. And that if they like it, then some celebrity will know their name. Because its a case of "fame by association" the great wannabe dilemma.

Because most people cry out hoping their opinions matter especially to someone in the public eye. They probably just enjoy the thought of their answer being read by Clay Aiken, Alyssa Milano or Hilary Clinton.

If those celebrities or politicians really wanted viable solutions to America's problems they should have a widely publicized open essay contest. That way legitimate answers could come from the most worthy - and maybe they could throw in a lifetime supply of chocolate pudding for getting people involved in UNICEF.

Pretty vague generality don't you think?
That is I am part of "people" and I have not participated in the "flocking" that you describe. And as for questions of non-celebrities being just as good, I would argue that in some circumstances they are likely to be just as bad.
I seriously doubt that Hilary for example came up with the wording of her question by herself. I imagine someone on her staff provided the specific wording.
As I do not have a well paid or even a poorly paid staff to do my bidding, people have to suffer with some of my poorly worded, or ill conceived questions and sadly some of my also poorly worded or ill conceived answers.

Not true for me.
But maybe it is because the celebrity questions are just more exposed to everyone, as they usually put them in a big box and advertise that they are there.
And then there are those who are celebrity junkies, I guess...
To me we are all people.

well.for some, like me,it wudnt be because I would want to achieve fame by association, but I would the celebrity to read my comment, and, if it was practical, they might read it and use it which is just a way of getting a mesage out there.

Maybe it's because they want to have a chance to get their name out there or they want a chance to influence the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

celebrities are more interesting sometimes because they are rich and get so much attention; plus they are very good looking and sometimes their personal life becomes public
