She didn't start writing the Little House books until she was in her 50's. She had quite a career as a local newspaper and magazine writer, though.

I agree that the characters and her writing style are very endearing and it would great to have more. There are series of books written by other authors about her mother and other ancestors, if you'd like that.

Rose Wilder Lane wrote quite a bit as well. Her novel Young Pioneers is wonderful. Laura also published a series of letters she wrote to Almanzo in a book West From Home. She took a trip to visit an adult Rose in San Francisco, and the letters chronicle her trip. Fascinating how people lived then, and her comments on a city and lifestyle so different from the Little House books. The world changed greatly in her lifetime.

Another book similar to Wilder's is Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink. Better, in my opinion.

It took alot longer to write books just using a pen / typewriter than it does today with home computers / laptops. It is pretty amazing that she was able to get out 8 books.
