A re-habilitation place, punishment place or a mulyi-million dollar busissnes where the profit is human lifes? Why is society building so many prisons at the same time cutting off programs in education , health and social services? Should we not instead make it a priority to our young people and EDUCATE them to a safe and secure future that now is non-existent to them?

I agree. The priority should be with education, health and social services. It is very easy to look away and lock the problems up in an isolated room. I guess as society we take the easy way- The other option would be to invest in people -which is risky and costly.
On the other hand -prisons are needed for criminals -and to protect society. But in my opinion social services should indeed take more of the weight.

Tough question and decisions. We cannot have over-crowded prisons. That is just wrong. Hence, we build more as we seem to need them.
As far as education goes, that doesn't always work. In many places, convicts are not allowed certain types of work. A convict in OK cannot do any work which requires a license. That eliminates a great many jobs. Further, the geographic places where some convicts are legally allowed to be limits their movement. Even if a convict can otherwise get a job if the job is too close to a school or other restricted area, he cannot work.
I believe that in some cases we have gone beyond justice into vengeance. Sending convicts into the public and telling them to meet unrealistic expectations is cruel. Some are required to pay outrageous fees while being so limited in income that it cannot be done. Also, cheap housing is unavailable because it is too close to restricted areas. If we are not going to allow a convict to be a part of society, then the convict should stay in prison.

Why? Free eudcation is such a part of prison life anyway...
but poverty and depression lead to crime.
Poverty and depression lead to lack of ability to educate, lack of support from parents, etc.
There is nothing we can do about that.
But we can educate them once they're on the inside.
Does this sound sarcastic? I'm only half sarcastic, because a lot of what I said is true...

we should be doing all the things you said but we need more and more prisons to lock away the murderers, rapist, and all the other criminals.
