Reading some of the questions and answers given here is making my eye twitch. It's a good thing there is not a virtual red pen, or I would probably be the most disliked reader on Yahoo.

And yes, before anyone gets twisted, I realize there are a number of other languages that probably get parsed into some twisted form of English here. It's a pet peeve. I'm just curious as to whether or not I'm the only one scratching my head in disbelief.

I know what you mean! Sometimes I read a question and I have no clue as to what they are asking.

Yes, it bothers me a lot.

First, some of it makes me think that young people are simply not being adequately trained on the usage of the language (I'm forgiving non-native English speakers here). It's a bit embarrassing to think that the language slaughter that I routinely see on this forum represents my nation to the rest of the planet.

Second, some of it seems to be adopted as acceptable by those used to sending very abbreviated text messages on telephones. For those that do this, my message would be to only use that syntax when texting. This forum is for intellectual communication and discovery. If you want to be taken seriously -- and have your questions be taken seriously -- please show the courtesy of respectful communication with attention to detail. Put some thought and care into the effort, and you might get more thought and care given back to you in the form of a well-thought out answer.

A bit of advice for folks out there -- go out and buy a Mavis Beacon CD and learn how to touch type. This medium will be around for a while and being a competent keyboarder will assist greatly in getting your thoughts across to others.

Finally, don't ask questions that make it painfully obvious that you're trying to have others do your homework for you. Use your brains, then if stumped ask about specifics.

Kelly has a new word for everyone....
PARSED.....very good, but you probably shouldn't use the word 'twisted' twice in the same sentence.
You can have an early minute for trying.

Well, you're getting free answers from someone so it's up to them whether or not they feel it's necessary to spell check or grammar check.

also, not all are fluent in the english grammar, but their thoughts, ideas, experience, are probably more valuable than the english language they understand.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. My biggest pet peeve is grammar/spelling mistakes. Plenty of my friends ask me to edit their essays. haha

Actually, yes. It bothers me immensely. Imagine all the people in the world who are completely illiterate.

yeah it kinda does bother me. but not really because mine is just as bad. i like to think of myself as fairly literate and able to write a decent freshman college level paper. but i honestly don't care if i use perfect grammar online.

Yes, it does - and especially bad use of apostrophes!
