"They don't boo nobodies" Reggie Jackson
This is one of those easy math problems [ until somebody corrects me about how much revenue a visiting team actuallu gets]
$16, 200, 000 / 162 games =a potential increase in revenue of $100K per game. If the average seat is $20.00 per game then 5000 additional seats per game must be sold in order to justify the cost. Yes he is worth it.
I told you I like easy math problems.

2 parts to the question. Is he worth 16 million in his actaul stats and lead his team to the Series. No. he is past his prime and will not be a star player anymore. Hes a disgrace to the game and only cares about Barry.

Now is he worth it to the team to keep and will the team make that 16 million back on Barry. Definatly. He will bring in a lot of revenue for the club especially because he will fill seats (with haters and lover's of Barry) Also he is going for a record so everyone wants him to fail or beat it.

So as a baseball player no.
But as a Sales Perspective oh yeah!

I love Barry, but I don't think he's worth $15.6 (or $20) million based on his 2006 productivity. If his creaky knees hold up and his wonky elbow doesn't need more cutting (and if he doesn't completely disrupt the clubhouse), then *maybe* he would be worth it. His fielding isn't what it used to be, but it's still "middle of the pack" quality (there are probably a few runs that a better fielder could have prevented, but nothing that would make a substantial difference in that many games).

No, he's unquestionably no longer. he's out to break Hank Aaron's record understanding what he somewhat is: a steroid-using cheater. If he had any decency, he does not come lower back to tarnish the interest. that is not honest for cheaters to break archives. He might smash the record, yet interior the minds and hearts of many baseball followers, that record will extremely belong to Hank Aaron. what's happening to the integrity of the interest? i do no longer care approximately Barry cheating Bonds coming back, if he needs the record, he could have it, bypass forward, make 22 extra abode runs and that is yours...i'm going to nevertheless be attentive to who the real record-holder is, besides the undeniable fact that it purely shows all the extra how despicable Bonds is.

First off his contract was rejected due to a provision that MLB would not allow. He still has not officially signed as of today.

Is he worth it if all goes well? No.
He barged into Winter meetings bluffing about having other teams being interested in him against his agents will.

He's a 42 year old outfielder who can barely field his position on a daily basis.

He has in all but separated himself from the club house after falsely accusing Mark Sweeney of giving him amphetamines after failing the test.

He currently refuses to sign the new revised contract.

I can't think of any 42 year old player who is worth all this aggravation.

Yes!! He is worth that. He is still the most feared hitter in baseball. He still has one of the best on base percent, and that is what gets you more runs. He will put fans in seats at home and on the the road!!! The Giants will make a ton of money on Bonds, so yes he is worth that as a player and a cash flow for the Giants!!!

Just going by statistics, not even close. (And, BTW, it's actually about a $20M contract if he actually plays a full season.) Last year, his stats (in about 2/3 of a season's worth of at-bats) were comparable to Jermaine Dye ($7M/year in '07), Jim Thome ($14M), and Carlos Beltran ($12M), all of whom managed a full season's worth of play last year. SF is paying a significant premium just so that he'll break Aaron's record as a Giant, but even the extra attendance by people coming to see the chase won't be nearly enough to make up that extra salary.

If having him will increase revenue by enough times that then yes. If not then no. All comes down too will they make more then 16 million by having him.
