One thing to keep in mind is that there is a cost to advertising jobs, hiring, training, etc so not all employers advertise in any one place. For some employers it is the newspapers while for others it is online. Some use college job boards while for others it's professional employment services or just a "help wanted" sign in the window. Some employers don't advertise at all and use referrals from current employees. Don't be afraid to network with family and friends, pound the pavements to ask about employment opportunities, and/or send resumes to the places you would LIKE to work. Who knows you may create a job for yourself or be in the right place at the right time??? Some employers simply go through in house resumes before absorbing the costs to advertise openings. You don't have to do one thing or the other... get your name out there and your desire to work. Nothing beats a smile over a white sheet of well typed resume information. Your mission is to get an interview not to let them read your biography.

There are always restaurant jobs, but I'm thinking you want something that might be a bit more high end than that. Many retail stores hire people with virtually no experience and if you're a hard worker, you stand a good chance of being promoted.
If you need something a bit more lucrative and you have no felonies, working at a hospital (housekeeping, office, food service) can pay pretty well.

Find out what you want to do (take free career tests online).
Write out a list of the skills you posess. If you don't have direct experience, then be sure to find skills that you have that will match the skills in the job you're looking for. And always be willing to learn and tell people that you are willing to learn.

Fast food places
Telemarketing
Walmart and big chained retail stores
If you know how to type fast. For example, 30 words per minute or more and have a pleasant voice. You can do clerical work. Go to the employment agency and they will help you get a job that's best for your skills.

Since you have skills, what job is it? you can try temp agencies. They always are recruiting people for work. They just throw people together when they have a project that has to be done. One of the projects I always do for OfficeTeam is the San francisco Food bank in which they required the temp to speak Chinese which I don't, but they just want the project finished. That is why they send me.

Go to some temp agencies. They send you on short-term jobs the require entry-level skills (answering phones, stuffing envelopes, etc), but you can learn a lot and if you're reliable, enthusiastic and eager they can develop into something. Good luck.

I would start with temp agencies. You can gain the experience there, and sometimes even get a temp-to-perm position.
