Why dont schools encourage public displays of affection as opposed to hate, hurt and lonliness?

So teenagers develop socially and in terms of relationships as loving, careing people.

Instead of lonley, hurt, slashing wrist, being cold and nasty to each other.

Not developing emotionally so can't pull and end up with hookers or in abusive relationships.

Professionalisim is about doing a job right...Nothing else.Ie a mechanic making a car work

Morality is about being nice to each other.

And proper sex ed and availablity of contraception eliminates the pregnancy fear.

Plus you have the incentive of if studients in a couple improve their grades or get an A without cheating... 5 minutes snog time

Plus in the future jobwise you mainly need social skills, selling, persuading, anti office politics

Far more so then academic skills.

The close people get to others the better their socail interaction and relationship skills.

Plus less self harm, suicides, drug and alchol abuse etc

PDA's are not exceptable in the work place

Why not?

Only reason I can see is bosses who get some sort of sex thrill about hurting people and making couples divorce like a bully.

Kids should be tught to not only be publically affectionate...

But defend themselves and get aggressive with anyone who tries to stop it including bosses till they back down...

Treat it like a right...

Any boss with any intelligence when he finds out the staff are dating would give them an incentive to improve productivity...

You guys complete your quota in less time or exceed it... 10 mins in the broom cupboard... Sales should thriple.

Plus where on earth can you get to know people in most cases other then school, uni or work?

Cant do it in nightclubs as its look first, experiese in chatting up next...

no getting to know people first.

And with long hours culture, high house prices, **** wages... many can't afford to go out only meet at work

Revolutions often start in education teaching people not to take abuse or oppression any more..

Like blacks not allowed on busses, the french revolution etc.

And kids can be shown things like this

This is a real stoning taken on covert video.

And told those who oppose public affection would support this given the chance... treat them with appropiate violent action if they mess with you

Squeezy... Not sure if you are aware but most of the british film and television industry is actually based in Soho (bit of a red light district amongst other things like cafes and gay areas)

And a primary first job for those wanting to enter the film industry is as a runner.

A common job is running tapes between the companies which are often hiddne with no door numbers, litterally though alleys and up firscapes.

When I tried to enter the industry lost several jobs as could not find the places quickly enough. Likewise could not handle office politics and new anff all abot different coffee types which seemed to be requirements for the job.

Whilst the history of sound, or 90% of media studies was not needed.

So simply saying ... Teach what you need in a job so kids succeed.

Plus Only see affection be it a reassuring hug to an upset kid or couples expressing love like a cat as positive.

2007-02-01 12:13:57 · update #6

So no more inappropiate then you pet cat wanting to get toucy with you as needs a stroke so feels loved.

Couples are the same... if they love each other then need to touch and be touched ie hug, hold hands, kiss.

Most divorce must therefore occure as couples are not showing affection in public.

And in nightclubs and parties young coupels are making out infront of everyone and nobody cares...

The couples are just getting close.

Now compare that to the ugly nurdy kid without any affection wanting to kill itself as all hurt and cant form relatioships...

Wheres the good in that.

THE OBESSION WITH TEENAGERS AS YOU PUT IT IS THIS...

ITS THE START

YOUR FIRST TIMES WHICH FORM THE BASE FOR YOUR FUTURE... MUCH LIKE YOUR EDUCATION.

iF IT DOES NOT GO RIGHT AT FIRST AND DEVELOP PROPERLY THOSE FIRST FEW YEARS CAN DESTROY YOUR LIFE OR MAKE IT A SUCCESS.

Ie mess up your A levels and GCSes, miss out on uni and you are screwed career wise.

Relationships are the same.

Stop looking for nasty things which are not there...

thats why you see affection as bad... the nastiness is in you.

Whilst L see anyone whatever age cuddling ans a good thing, a needed thing for people to feel happy in themselves.

Whilst abuse I see as bullying... ver different

SQUEEZY.... MY LIFE WAS RUINED DUE TO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AS A TEENAGER AND THE HURT HAS LASED OVER A DECADE ANS WILL NEVER STOP...

THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT... STOPPING OTHERS, PROTECTING OTHERS FROM THAT FATE

That's an interesting way of looking at things - the role of schools are to prepare children for the adult word. PDA's are not exceptable in the work place and neither is any of the other behaviors you are claiming schools encourage (which they don't).

Good Luck!!!

I worked in a Primary school. Young children demand love but you have to be sensitive to the way you display it. Some like hugs some like you to show appreciation rather differently, but yes a hugs is probably the easiest and best method of reassurance. Sadly as a male I always felt awkward doing this and was much more cautious than the lady teachers. The reason is obvious; society is getting more suspicious.

In the end you do what you feel can be justified and understood. You just do your best.

A public display of affection implies that a female is snuggling with a male in public. However, she may well be the disputed girlfriend of a more violent male. He may be the boyfriend of a furious girl. Fights break out. What fun it is for the teachers.

Look: schools can teach math, history, gym, and some moral behavior. All the rest of the stuff must be learned on your own, and dealing with hormone-crazed teenagers should not be part of anyone's job description. It's hard enough to keep your sanity teaching.

In an ideal world we would all be nice to each other, but if you watch the news this question is eclipsed by all that would be taught. We can not teach children to behave in a different way than the rest of the world. Adults are the ones who make the choices that the rest of the population follows. It would be a travesty if we taught children to behave in the way you suggest then they would be the fodder of everyone else who lives in the REAL world.
Sad but true...
As you yourself admits children taught your way in some countries would be stoned. Do you want that on your conscience.. People live by the society they are surrounded with.. lets give children the ability to survive firstly and hopefully find some contentment rather than expect them to to be able to be something that is unobtainable..

Why are you obsessed with schools teaching PDAs, kissing and how to get snacks in Soho? People who are answering seriously- check out his other Qs.

This must just be a wind up; either that or you are a bit too obsessed by teenagers 'affections'. If you are working in Soho (as the example in your other odd Q gave), get on with your work before some promotion-hungry person who went to school to learn grasses you up to the boss.

Future answerers- in the context of other postings, he means teachers 'kissing and cuddling' in front of kids, in part, because it is 'natural'.

I work in a school with emotionally disturbed teenage boys and they will often ask for a cuddle.
Sadly many people working with children are expressly warned against any physical contact with clients because allegations of indecency etc.
It is very sad fact of the society we live in that an adult cannot give a distressed child a hug to comfort them.

That starts at home in a loving stable environment. Don`t blame schools for the social dysfunction of young people.

How very insightful. I suppose people would rather stay with the devil they know than to go with the one they don't. Erring on the side of caution, is what I mean.

i think you mean why dont more schools openly and actively promote tolerance, compassion and acceptance. not public displays of affection. lack of pda does not = hate and suicide.
