I believe they are only ending their support for the free version, not making it unavailable.

it is not being discontinued but i would recommend a better free antivirus which is avira antivir personal edition it has 94% detection rates whereas avg has 83% and is really low on system resources. here is the website http://www.freeav.com/

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic reliably protects your private computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers.

Respectfully, I think you misunderstood
a notice put out by AVG (grisoft.com)
Go back and read the fine print.
Search every link.
If you already have the free AVG home
owners version, I don't think they're going
to drop you. (unless I misunderstood it.)

it is not stopping it
you read it wrong
you cannot use the 7.1 version anymore
you have to download the 7.5 version
when you install it
press repair
