I teach Middle School Math 7th and 8th - in an Alternative Education School (Public School)... I want to make a difference!

I love being a teacher and really connecting with concepts. I like seeing the "light bulb" go on for students that have struggled!

My Degrees:

Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Sciences

Masters Degree: Curriculum and Instruction

I have been teaching for 6 years (5 years in a "regular" classroom - self contained and this is my first year as an "Alt. Ed" Teacher)

I went to Miami University in OHIO from 1996 - 2001 (BS in Ed)
I attended Indiana Wesleyan University from 2003-2004 (MEd)

I got my first teaching job in 2001 right after college graduation (the next day)

Then, I moved from that job to be with my Husband in the Army last year, and have taught here ever since!

I don't understand what you mean by How much did it cost? I'm guessing you mean, how much did I pay to get my education....

College + Masters was about $60,000

Hope this helps!

As for some questions to ask:

1 - What made you decide to become a teacher? Anyone in particular?

2 - Is actually teaching the same as you thought it would be? What is the same? Different?

3 - What was the biggest surprise to you when you first stepped into your classroom?

4 - What changes in the education system would YOU make if you had the power to do so? Why?

5 - What would you tell a student / person is the importance of getting a good education?

6 - What is the hardest part about being a teacher?

7 - If you decided you no longer wanted to be a teacher, what would you do instead?

8 - Why do you think OTHER teacher's got into the profession? Do you think it is because they care about children?

9 - How do you think the education system has changed as technology and society has changed? Is this a good or bad change?

10 - Would you recommend the teaching profession to your children? Why or why not?

You might want to try another venue for data collection. 1st thing I see is your data will be invalid, because your likely to assume your responses are actually from those who teach..

Pull out your researchs methods book and look up content validity..

Perhaps if you were doing your poll on an edu website where the logins were validated and credentialed educators? YOU just might have a valid sample that adheres to content validity for a study.

Educators are notorious for bypassing statistical norms in studies. This why K12 education is in such a world of hurt. Educators taking shortcuts. grrrrrrr.

It will help if u give further details on your research. What is it about, more specific (saying it is a research about teachers is very vague)? What do you need to find out with this survey? Try not to ask biased questions, I mean, questions in which u may lead to a specific answer.

Hope it helps

You got good advice from other posters about more solid research (especially about people posing as teachers) and some good interview questions for teachers to ask in person.
Enjoy your research!
