What's a good time and place for a long weekend? I'm looking for moderate temperatures (60-75 degrees F during the daytime), good food, hiking, some interesting sights. Would also consider Arizona or Utah.

Many thanks!

The best time is when the Cactus are in bloom.
I love Anza Borrego Desert.
They have all numerous hiking trails!
A stream, and waterfalls too!

The State Park is beautiful, and the park rangers can give you guided tours, or you can go it on your own.

IM me if you want anymore input.

there is a trail, short one, where all the plants are labeled.

Spring time, Easter is Bloom time in the desert!

there is a great little old west Bed and Breakfast right in town.
It's only about 12 yrs old, but really cool.
there are resturants, and it's a cute little town.

here is a ton of sites!

Do a search on Anza Borrego and there is even a historical society!
it's beautiful there, and you will have to call and ask the park rangers when the "bloom" week is expected this year!

Anytime between November and March is rather nice. Temperatures are cool and desert is in bloom. Even as late as April can be nice. Be sure to check out the wild flowers they are in bloom from about February through April, or as temperatures allow. (They die in hot weather) I recommend the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area, Anza Borrego, Joshua Tree National Park, and the Salton Sea. Enjoy your trip!

Right now is the best time (mid-winter) up until the end of April.
After that, it gets intense heat-wise! I visited Death Valley at Thanksgiving and that was perfect (chilly nights, warm days). Joshua Tree is nice this time of year (east of L.A.).

If you'd like to go to some spectacular mountain places, I've written about some of my trips... in California, the John Muir Trail is BEAUTIFUL -- although too much snow in the winter...

And then you mentioned Utah and I LOVE Bryce Canyon, and it may or may not have snow right now, but the park is open year round (less crowds right now)...

Enjoy!

Death Valley in august is good.............seriusly though i would try palm springs in Nov, it should still be in the upper 70' low 80's. also Carlsbad NM is good anytime except summer (but it can get very cold in the winter)
