I'm going to buy my husband either an Xbox 360 or a PS3 for his birthday in June. I can't decide which. For the most part we like RPG's and he likes sports games (Madden, NCAA, etc.) and we don't mind waiting for games. My main concern is glitches. I haven't heard many negative things about PS3, but I know it hasn't been out that long. I have heard tons of bad stuff about the 360 (overheating, etc.) Any suggestions?

Do you need a HD-DVD player, a picture viewer, a web browser, and a bunch of other things as well as a gaming system or do you want just a gaming system??

The PS3 is a rip off - it is a gaming system that does a bunch of other things most gamers dont want...so why waste $600?? Also, note that pretty much any game made for PS3 is out on the Xbox 360 as well - even games that were supposed to be exclusive (like Assasins Creed) is coming to Xbox. Guitar Hero - coming to Xbox. Oh - and if you want to play old PS2 games on your new PS3 that require special controls, such as Guitar Hero - youre SCREWED - there is no way to play them, as you cannot plug in the controllers... Sony really thinks highly of its past customers, huh? Backwards compatibility was supposed to be one of the biggest selling point - but hardly any games can be played without having to DL some patch or something...

I have been a Sony fan all my life - until this PS3 fiasco. I have an Xbox 360 and the Wii. I wouldnt recommend the Wii, as it is more for kids, and there arent a whole lot of good games out for it. As for my Xbox, I LOVE IT - and Ive never had an issue with overheating... I was at Best Buy last week and was talking to a guy who was returning his THIRD PS3 - because no matter what TV he played it on, there was a line running up the middle of the screens... Also, note that the PS3 doesnt come with good cables - you have to spend an additional $100 for HD cables, while the Xbox comes with HD cables - and is $400 for the top line model, $200 LESS than Sony.

Also note that PSM magazine wrote an article last month comparing the 360 to the PS3 - and said the Xbox was better!! PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE said it was better - whats that tell you??

Good luck!

The 360 seems to be the best console at the moment, simply because there are more games released (regardless of whether you can wait for more). As for RPGs, games like 'Elder Scrolls: Oblivion' will be available on both platforms, so there aren't any problems there. Again, sports games are almost never exclusive. Bear in mind when you make your decision, that the widely rumoured new version of the Xbox 360 will probably be released by Christmas, with HDMI and a quieter fan. The PS3 has had its fair share of criticism too, by the way. Expensive, poor online infrastructure, no rumble on the controllers, lacklustre third party support. It's also worth noting that games like Madden will be released on both consoles. I would suggest you look at the exclusive games he'll enjoy (e.g. 'Gears of War' or 'Metal Gear Solid') and make your judgement accordingly.

PS3 hands down!!!

Blue Ray DVD players ALONE are going for a grand!! The PS3 is a gaming system as well as having Blue Ray for $599. Now I'm not saying that $600 isn't a lot of money, but it is worth when you compare. You can still play your PS2 games on it where as XBox360 won't play regular XBox games. The gaming system itself, on the PS3, is so advanced that they haven't even been able to competely utilize all it can do with the games they have out now (way more advanced than the XBox 360 in terms of graphics and extras). The motion sensor remotes are exceptional on it too!! Now when you play a Need for Speed or Madden all you have to do is turn the remote and you'll move... AWESOME!!! PLUS when you go online with the PS3 you can download games right onto the hard drive!! Now you don't even have games to lose like I end up doing sometimes lol

Your best bet if you want the PS3 is do what I'm doing and waiting for the next Grand Theft to come out and buy it then (hopefully it'll cost less by then too hehe). It's usually better to wait anyway, first generation systems usually have bugs (XBox 360 shutting off and burning up like they were).

i've had my xbox 360 since it came out and havent had any problems like freezing or overheating but i heard that the PROTOTYPE PS3 Which btw is 3/4 of the actual ps3 power blew up at E3 lol so i'd say xbox 360...plus y waste £425 or $700 on a ps3 when you could get and xbox 360 for £250 or $450 and i also heard that the new GTA game will be coming out on Xbox 360 before it comes out on ps3 and halo 3 is just too good and ps3 wont be getting that.

My boyfriend is a hardcore playstation fan (Dating back to the PS1) BUT I got him a 360 for christmas and he loves it! He is into sports too, you name it hes into it as well as RPG's. His cousin had gotten the PS3 and he told me that he is glad I got him the 360 because the games are more realistic and the gameplay much better. The 360 also has way more games out than the PS3 due to the 360 being out longer. I guess it depends on the person but I never thought my boyfriend would turn his back on Sony but he did so the xbox must be doing something right.

the only reason the ps3 is being returned to stores is because people slept days to buy them, only to sell them on ebay. and when they couldnt get rich doing that, they took them back. the ps3 is a better machine now, and it just came out. think a year from now the potential that thing has. its amazing. and even xboxs fans will admit to this, they have a nickname for the 360 glitzes, it called the red rings of doom. seriously, its not hard. unless you are one of those people who eat sleep and breathe halo, there really isnt a good reason to chose the 360.

I'd go with the 360. It is less expensive, has been on the market longer so all the glitches are worked out, and has more games.

The PS3 is wildly expensive, unproven technology right now, and who knows how the games will eventually be.

Get the XBox 360 this year. Next year, see how the PS3 is doing.

PS3... i had the priveldge to play constantly over the last month and im addicted. xbox 360 is decent, but it just depends what he likes, find out if he like regular xbox or ps2 better. that will give you a great idea which to get. They are both very similair to the previous product, more advanced though. But PS3 definately can play madden, ncaa and all the sports games. All are amazing too.

I care about game titles. I'm a huge Halo fan and Gears of War is amazing, so my vote goes for the 360. However, if either of you are fans of any Sony exclusive titles, then naturally you should go for the PS3. All this talk about performance and graphics- I could give a rat's *** about.

Xbox360. IceyFlame is completely wrong. Xbox games can be played on Xbox360. There is a $19.99 fan that hooks to the back of the xbox360 to help with the overheating. I have it hooked to mine and never had a problem with it. $600 just to have something that plays blu-ray dvd's isnt worth it to me, since PS3 is being returned to the stores like no tomorrow cause they crash and stop working. Go with the Xbox360.....I love it and will never buy the PS3.
