I think this answer is different for a lot of people.

My definition of a friend is a person who meets your emotional and intellectual needs. A friend is someone you can turn to at 2:00 in the morning when you and your boyfriend just got into a fight and they're not mad that you woke them up. A friend makes you want to better yourself, to live up to the potential that you were meant for, and will help you achieve your goals and your dreams. A friend is someone who can be honest with you when you've made a mistake by telling you that you made a mistake and will stick around to help you fix it. They will not just tell you what they think you want to hear as they know that's not productive and you will not learn from it nor will it do any good.

I have been blessed with some of the best friends I could ever hope for. My grandfather used to tell me "they are not your friends, they are aquaintences, when you get older, you'll be lucky if you have 2 close friends" I've been very, very lucky then. My friends have been my friends for over 25 years and I have nearly a dozen of them.

things you would share in middle of the night. When it hurts the most first person you're gonna call and say what's wrong. Laugh and have the time of your life type of person is consider a real friend!
Doesn't always have to be very close to you but will understand even without looking at you what you mean and what you need!

If you have someone like that keep them close and try not to spoil that relationship in any way, those are for life time!

what makes a real friend, is that ur friend has to have a good personality. also good characteristics like truthfulness, and u dont want ur friend to be 2 faced. also u and ur friend hang out a lot and u have the same interests. ur friend is sweet and helpful, respectful, secrative, and kind. i have a friend like that! i just gave u those exmaples from my best friend.
