I guess so. My kids cried when "Freddy" died. We had him for two years and the night he died I told my son to remember that Freddy is up in heaven and my son said, "Yeah, and he's probably thinking about what a good life he had." So, yes, I think it's possible.

I have a fish tank and I really don't care about them. They live a lonely life with each other. When one dies I just scoop it out and flush it down the toilet.
