I have two goldfish in one tank. The larger, older one has had these white cottony things covering both his eyes, while the other has not, ever. I put the fungus treatment drops in the tank, and they didn't seem to help. Then I put the Ick tablets in, and he seems friskier, but the cottony growth on his eyes is still there. Should I treat the tank again for Ick? I've had this silly fish for about 3 years, now, and I'd hate to see him suffer or die!

ich looks like salt granules. fungus looks like slimey goop. columnaris (a bacteria) looks like cotton. i think since you treated for ich (which is a parasite treatment) and you treated for fungus it is probably a bacteria -- try using maracyn and maracyn2 a the same time and it should take care of most of your fish's bacterial problems.

Store-bought medications never work. You could try a salt bath. You put the infected goldfish in a different tank, and you put 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon twice a day. You repeat that for the next 5 days, and if the fish isn't completely well by then, continue doing it for another 3 days.
Hope it works!

That is not ick. It sounds like columnaris, a bacteria. Treat with maracyn plus. I suggest treating in a hospital tank, though you may have already killed off the beneficial bacteria in your tank.

My first reaction was to say fungus, but if only one has it... I'd say call the pet store.

Just so you know, if you're talking a little goldfish, they only live a couple of years anyway.

But call the pet store and see what they say.
