Tonight I have just had a nice salad and afterwards I loaded up the dishwasher. The dishwasher is a usual size with brackets for plates, cups and bowls as well as a tray for the cutlery.

However, I am sure there is more room available but I can't figure it out.

I am hardly ever satisfied with pots and pans coming clean in a dishwasher . . . I do them by hand, therefore leaving room for dishes. But that's just me. I do know though that you cannot overload the dishwasher and expect things to get clean. I would say, if it appears full, it is full.

If you overload the washer it will not clean properly. A dishwasher has racks that allow water to flow around the dishes. If you pack the machine, water cannot hit all of the dishes and will not clean them. To save water and energy, run your dishwasher when it is fully loaded.
