I am in my final stages of completing my BA Accounting with Business degree. Will finish in Dec 07. I have come across a contact who can help me get work experience working in the Houses of Parliament. I am kinda in two minds whether to proceed with this great work experience or reject it as it has nothing to do with finance. So i ask advice on whether it would be worthwhile getting work experience at the Houses of Parliament (not sure what ill be doing but i think it will involve meeting with people) or reject it as it has nothing to do with finance? If so how much is renting accomodation nearby?

Think of the kudos this will bring - look at it as an opening to other things; accountancy and business may get you a degree, but they aren't the be all and end all. What other avenues are currently open to you?

There's an old saying that it's easier to get work if you already have a job; think of your CV!!

Work experience is important, and I would think working in the Houses of Parliament would be considered a rarity versus where most college students work (e.g., coffee shops, restaurants, amusement parks, etc.). Although it has nothing to do with finance, you will learn some skills, such as team work and communications, which will transfer into any position. Who knows? They might like your work ethic so much that upon graduation you'll be promoted to the Finance Department!
