How long do you have to keep bills that are paid, bank statements, etc.?

Unless you need them for tax purposes, you shouldn't need to hold onto anything for more than a year. You're better off not having too much stuff in this day with the threat of identify theft.

Most cases are committed by someone you know.

if its a business 7 years if not then just put them in a box and store them some place for that long in case.a year at a time so in end of 7 year you can ditch them.
