My car got hit in a parking lot, and the person who hit me has American Service Insurance. So far, they've been obnoxious to deal with, and I haven't even gotten the car into one of their body shops for an estimate yet. I can't imagine how badly this is going to go. Has anyone learned anything about them that can help me get through this claims process before I grow old(er)?

This should be sarcastically fun for you. Sorry. I did some research and they are whats called a "non-standard" insurance issuer. That means they cover "risky" drivers. In fact, the following is how the Associated Press describes a non standard insurer:

"Nonstandard is a polite way of describing insurers who cover risky drivers." -AP

I looked that definition up on an insurance industry definition website and found it referred to in several news articles. They are a subsidary of Kingsway Financial out of Canada. being the type of insurer they are unfortunately you are going to be in for lots of aggrevation. I got hit once by a person whom had very similar insurance. They used so many little tactics (legal too) to delay paying my claim. Was just a big mess.

What about your insurance? Knowing they will have to pay to fix your car if the other bozos don't they usually will assist you in recovering. Besides... your supposed to involve your auto insurance anyway regardless of fault. Don't go it alone. If you are and this fly by night place knows your not also working with a big insurance company on your side they are going to delay or even skip paying your claim because they know most can't afford lawsuits like this on their own and you have no solid company backing you.
