I am moving to a new place with brand new hardwood floors and I wonder if I should use a floor mat for my office chair. I have one right now but it has the little "things" for the grip on the carpet. I went only to officedepot.com and all they have is for the carpet.

Are there any floor mats for hardwood floors?

Yes, I would use a matt under the desk chair. The problem with the desk chair, is that the casters can become rough, and they will scratch a floor, or, any gritty substance can get caught between the caster and the floor surface, and get dragged -- thus scratching the floor.

You do not necessarily have to buy a "chair matt" tho... any kind of floor matt will work just find. I would even suggest something along the lines of an entry matt, or hall runner, cut to fit. If it has a tendency to slip...then a little double-sided tape around the perimeter of the floor matt will keep it in place, and will not harm the wood.

Here is just one example - http://www.officedepot.com/textRefine.do?Ne=1&Ntt=chair+matts&Ntk=all&Nr=100000&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=101148&uniqueSearchFlag=true&Nty=1

Good Luck :)

Do not use it on hardwood floors if it has the little teethy grippy things on the underside. I tried it and ruined a floor. Left a million little indentations all in it.

THere are mats that do not have the grippers on the back. Try Quill or Office Max

I would suggest getting one that lays flat on the floor, the wheels on the chair will scratch up the floor and give a dull nasty look.
They do make floor mats that are made for hard floors.
