The whole idea of it freaks me out. But my best friend is getting married in Chicago, and I have to take a plane to get there, and be there on time. What can I do to alleviate the freaking out?

Your local airline runs therapy sessions for people with fear if flying

There is a cost for this and it is run by psychologists or Psychiatrists cannot recall which. Contact the airline you intend to use and get the details. You will not regret the experience and the freedom

We learned in health the other day that it's safer to fly then it is to drive. They said that for the number of plane crashes it would take to equal the amount of car crashes, 7 jumbo jets would have to go down every day for a whole entire year. Most people like driving better because THEY'RE in control of what's going on, rather then someone else doing it.

I suggest not looking out the window. That's a start.

Maybe someone you know really well (husband, boyfriend, mother, father, best friend) can go with you to help you along.

Chew gum to eliminate the pressure changes from popping your ears.

Bring something along to do that will occupy your mind. If something bad has just happened with a friend or relative (fight, falling out, etc.) write about it in a journal. Chances are that you'll be so worked up about the issue, you may forget that you're flying.

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you. Don't worry about it too much.

I'm afraid of heights and flying, but I decided to go skydiving to try and conquer both fears at the same time. I won't say it worked completely, but it did ease the tension I feel.

Also, get some booze on the plane.

Do you know that you are safer in the air then on the roads?

Here is a statistic that I found.

"In the US, each year there are about 40,000 deaths per year in automobile accidents vs. about 200 in air transport."

Fly up in the air and look at the wonderful birds view and know that you are safer there then on land.

Enjoy the wedding.
