I know its a dumb question but I keep reading that you can have guppy's and other fish with them and i've always been told you can't have them with other fish. So I was wondering if I could put one with my Serpae Tertras. I have 7 of them a little under one inch in size.

More likely the Tetras will nip the betta's fins. It might work given the tetras are in a school. Betta are more territorial than aggressive, but it varies from fish to fish. Also your going to want a tank larger than 5 gallons. (For this many tetra, and betta you're going to need at least 10 gallon tank.) Try putting the betta in a jar, vase, or breeder box in or next to the tank for 2-3 days. (Remember betta need access to air from the surface.) If he stops flaring, and posturing he'll be fine in the tank if the tetras leave him alone.

PS- Guppy are a bad tank mate for betta. The fancy males look to betta like, and they are weak swimmers. Male betta are poor swimmers, which limits their ability to attack most types of fish.

Tetras have a tendency to nip the betta's. Since they are in a school, this is probably not such a big problem. Betta's are generally peaceful towards other fish w/ no large fins but there is always the odd very aggressive one.

They might be ok, the only problem is tetras are fin nippers, so they might nibble on his fins. Also, I have discovered that male bettas are less territorial if you put them in a tank where there is already fish, not put fish w/ them. So if you want to risk it they might be ok, but you may end up w/ 7 missing fish, so I guess it is up to you, personally I wouldnt. Good Luck!!!!!!! =)

Male bettas can be placed with other non agressive fish that do nto have large fins. But it varies from betta to betta, suprivision is needed for the day or two that you do so. I have kept a male betta in with a group of mollies without any issue before.

Of course you can. You can't put 2 males together. If you could not put a male with a female, then how would you ever breed the next generation? Go for it, make him happy, and start a little Beta family.

you can try but there is no guarantee it will work. if you have the betta already and know his temperment -- then you might have a better chance. some bettas are sweet and some will attack anything. i think serpaes nip though -- that is bad for the betta. he will have all his fins nipped off.

Male Betas are aggressive. Expesially w/ other males. They are called Chinese Fighting Fish. You can put females in with the males. You the male beta in w/ other fish as well. I worked at a pet store and we always put one male in each tank. They didnt attack. But sometimes they would see the other male in the other tank and they would fan out their fins.

Tetras are too colorful. If you have to put your betta with other fish, they need to be small, and unimpressive in color. Please don't let your betta have a tetra feast...please.

Male bettas are only aggressive against other male bettas.
