Isn't it annoying. I think about 15% of the population is conservative, 15% of the population are liberal, and 70% of the population is in between. It's the 30% that's the most vocal and won't budge in their beliefs one bit.

We only have two viable parties, political speaking. Most people are not entirely liberal or conservative and a large number of others simply don't care. People end up coming down on the side that they have the fewest issues against. It's really pretty screwed up, but nobody has come a with any better ideas.

We're not all Conservative (Republicans) or Liberals (Democrats). Some of us however, hold independant political views and like to think that we think independantly. For example, do a search on Ralph Nader. That's a guy who hates both Republicans and Democrats, and does not refer to them as Liberal or Conservative. He calls them "The Big Business Party", because they repeatedly display the feelings of big business lobbyists far better than the American People.

...The Davis-Besse reactor in Ohio is a perfect example.

There are way more divisions then that. Pretty much everyone has a different opinion on almost everything, but those are the two groups that get enough people to sort of support them to have most the power. though most the country really would call them selves neither and say they agree with one side one some things and the other on others.

Everyone in America just have different views and when we vote for our leader we put all those views into three categories. Democrat, Republican, and Independant. It's all in one America but we are all divided by our own beliefs and morals

Because people disagree, and they form groups to consolidate power and coordinate themselves. In some ways we are lucky we only have two parties, some places have like 5-13 parties and less gets done. More parties might allow for more variety and compromise, but they mess some things up too.

You can't expect all Americans to just be free-minded, they will always try to group themselves as this or that and believe they are right in their beliefs.

I find the greatest division here in Yahoo's answers!
There is constant labeling of people not known to the people doing the labeling!
I don't know anyone personally who does any labeling, I have yet to have anyone call me anything because my opinion differs from theirs but here, look out! Sometimes I don't think they even know what the label means, it just sounds good to them!

It's certainly become one of the most divisive nations and has been for six years.

I still hold out hope for moderates. Arguably there's more of them, but being balanced and rational doesn't grab headlines as easily as the shrill and kooky actions of the far-right and far-left activists and pundits. It's a shame.
