im 14 too and i started wearing tampons in the summer becuase i went to hawaii and wanted to swim. it took me 7 to get one in properly. you just have to take deep breaths and relax. make sure to push it toward your tail bone becuase when you sit you vagina is almost horizontal. try using the smallest sizes and get the ones with the plastic aplicators because they is easiest to get in.

application:
1pull your pants all the way down to your ankles
2sit and open your legs as wide as you can
3put it in your vagina toward your back
4push it slowly but steadily and remain relaxed
5 push it in as far as you possibly can
6pull out the applicator and throw it away

to remove:
1pull your pants all the way down
2open your legs as wide as you can
3find the string and pull it slowly
4flush the tampon

if you put the tampon in and you feel a burn, that means that you didnt push it in far enough. you need to pull it out and try again. only wear a tampon on your heavier days because on the lesser ones, it may hurt to pull it out if it was not moist enough. try wearing it for a few hours at a time and dont wear it to school until you are comfortable wearing one for long amounts of time. start by wearing it when you are staying home and watching tv. also use good brands and not the generics. i have tried most brands and i prefer tampax pearl.

dont be scared of using a tampon. after all you dont want to be sitting in a diaper all day! a tampon is a plug and a pad is a diaper!!!

good luck puting it in!!!

I'm 14 years old too... yea before I tried it... I was like eww... but I wasn't scared but I know a lot of girls that are and I know where your coming from. Since I'm a cheerleader I have to where tampons because when I'm heavy I need flaps on the pad but it shows on a skirt so I use that new Playtex Sport... works like a charm! I also heard that Playtex, Always and other brands of tampons work well. Ummm.... it took me like 3 tries to get it in comfortably the first time. The best thing to do is relax and either lift a leg up or sit on the toilet and just put it in at about a 45 degree angle. Once you get it into your area, push down and it should slid right in... there's more directions in the tampon boxes. It's really not that bad, just do it, nothing bad will happen and it does not hurt (may feel a bit uncomfortable the very first time), once you do it the first time you will just tell yourself... "hey that wasn't that bad!" Just don't worry about it and push it right in! Oh and for a tip don't get the cardboard kind... there painful... especially on the first time (don't ask lol)... get the plastic kind like I said... works so well you can hardly feel it! Hope this helps and you feel better about it... Trust Me!!!

I was scared to use tampons for the longest time. I didn't start using them until college. So, if you aren't ready, it's okay. Otherwise, this would be a great question to ask mom, another trusted woman or even a good friend.

If you've gathered enough courage to try, here's my suggestion. Some people have suggested OB...OB still freaks me out because of the no applicator deal. (And I'm almost 30!) I would start with a tampon with a plastic applicator. They tend to be more comfortable. I believe Playtex makes a tampon for teens (more slender), so you may want to try that. Read the directions. It will give you an idea on how to insert the tampon, but don't be afraid to do it your own way. It's all about your comfort.

Oh, and relax...it doesn't get stuck! Good luck!

First of all, I don't think that any female likes getting their period.

Second of all, just try to RELAX. I find it easier to get a tampon in when I squat just a little bit. Make sure you do not stick it straight up in your vagina. You have to put it in at a little bit of an angle.

If all else fails, read the instructions that come in the box...that will give you some more tips.

If you still have trouble then just wait until you are older before you try again.

Good luck!

When I used my first tampon I was freaked out too. I kept getting this feeling that the string will get stuck. Anyway, each tampon box should come with instructions. Just take a deep breath, relax, and follow what it says. I suggest to only use tampons for sports activities or similar events. I aslo don't recommend leaving it in when you sleep.

P.S. Before I used one, I took it apart. That helped me.

*i was horrified, my mom wanted to do it for me!! ugh!
I told her I could do it myself!!!
**perhaps have a friend who's already go their period stand outside the door for moral support?

this site is really good and has photos and step by step directions.

you can get ob tampons that are smaller and come without an applicator. when i first started i found them easier to put in because you can guide where they go better with you finger, and you have a better idea of where it is suppose to go. i know it sounds kind of gross, but it's your own body, and you can wash your hand after. try this, and if it doesn't work, just keep trying, sometimes it's hard to find just the right spot to put it at first that is comfortable.

Try those smaller type tampons(OB brand) that you can get anywhere, the ones w/out an applicator, just a string. It takes practice to learn to use them but after the first successful try you will quickly become a pro.

Stand in front of the toilet put one leg up on the seat and leave other on ground and slide it in slowly. Make sure you get it up there well and push the plunger in, then slowly pull the plunger out to make sure you dont pull the tampon down, you want it upin there well. Trust me once you start wearing it you will NEVER go back.
