Yes, it's fine, especially if you are eating a well balanced diet with a lot of veggies. Some women never take prenatals because they eat so well.

It's okay to take them, but you really need about 1000mg of folic acid a day when you are pregnant. It's so important in early fetal development. You can buy folic acid by itself and take it in addition to your multivitamins. You can also eat things like broccoli, oatmeal, cereal, spinach, avocado, OJ (and many others) that are high in folic acid. You can also just call your OB and ask them if you can drop by their office and pick up some samples until you go to your first prenatal appointment. They get so many from the drug companies. Congratulations and best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Yes, BUT - please be sure they are not so-called mega-vitamins. Your body doesn't need huge overdoses of vitamins and minerals. Check the labels. You should only have more than 100% of Folic Acid. You will most likely need to take a calcium supplement, since calcium is too bulky to get a full dosage in a single multivitamin.
That being said, I have heard of some people who react adversely to prenatals. You can take a Flintstone vitamin and be just fine. The important thing is to be sure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs.

When I first found out I was pregnant (about 5 weeks), I went to Target (Walmart brand is fine too) and just bought their brand of prenatal vitamins. They were pretty cheap and the Folic Acid in them were very high (which is good). I took them until my doc prescribed me vitamins at my 8 week appt. :)

you're able to be taking prenatal supplementations quite of prevalent multivitamins. Many pharmacies are actually offering loose prenatal supplementations with a medical doctors prescription. while you're uncertain what to start taking till now you replace into pregnant, you may continually ask the pharmacist because of the fact they're going to understand what's stable/superb. stable success.

Just make sure the vitamin does not contain any herbs or green tea extract. If it doesn't, this vitamin will be fine. Remember you need at least 800mcg of Folic Acid to prevent neural tube defects, but having 400mcg is better than none.
