Most of the time if a rapper is wearing a Trademark brand name, MTV or any TV show would have to get clearance to show them. Also you can't show what is considered obsenity on the air. that's been since TV first came on the air. If you noticed on pre taped dramas and comedies they NEVER wear shirts with brand names on them.

An Example (I made this up okay? so don't get mad Bam fans): If they showed Bam wearing a Nike shirt without clearance, then Nike can sue them for using thier name to promote thier show. If there was a scandal associated with Bam or they just considered him not representative of Nike and MTV did not blur it out without Nike's permission, Nike can sue for defamation b/c veiwers could associate Nike with someone controversial. It's something like a sponsor pulling thier commericals during the race related "Survivor" season. They do not want to be associated with it. So some brands may not want to be associated with some celebs so the show needs to get clearance before they can show a celeb wearing a brand name.

it's all about what companys are supporting mtv and which ones aren't. if you watch some videos will have a logo and a week or so later it'll be blurred out (happened to a good charlotte video awhile back)

i would say it's either because they have innappropriate words on them, or it has something to do with advertisers. If Coke is paying for spots on your show...they'd be pretty mad if someone wearing a pepsi t-shirt showed up and got some free ad time
