I know you call a Patent Office to get a patent for an invention but if you have an idea for a product but cannot make that product yourself, who would you call to see if the idea is feasible in the first place and who to go to with the idea to see if it would be worth them making it, without them stealing your idea?

That's a tough question. I've had ideas before too and struggled with what to do.

I would start by determining who would buy the product. Make sure you understand the problem it solves and who the customer would be.

Next, I would find some people that you think would purchase this product and ask them what they think.

For example, if you believe you have a better design for diapers, then talk to mom's with kids and tell them about your idea. Get some feedback before you move on.

It is seems like a good idea, then I would find your local small business administration (www.sba.gov) and talk about next steps.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Meet with a local patent attorney who can help you along the way. You should get a free conseltation the first time.

Being an engineer myself, I would attend some local engineering society meetings and ask them what they think.
