Why does somebody want a 14.1" when he can have a 15.4" or a 17" screen? Especially if he is not taking it anywhere ?

Isnt the screen on a 14.1" way to strenous on the eyes?

Most people don't buy laptops if they aren't planning on carrying them around.

A smaller screen can increase battery life since it takes less energy to light up a smaller area.

Eye strain is independent on scrreen size. It is a simple thing to increase font size if you have a small screen or to decrease it at will. Eye strain can easily develop using a bigger screen with high resolution or just plain using the screen for a long period of time.

Books can cause eye strain too, as can staring at anything for a long period of time without breaks.

As you stated - if the person ISN'T gonna be going anywhere then there really is NO POINT in getting a tiny screen. It's all about the weight man. and just the look. Some people just like how small laptops look, they think anything bigger than 14" looks too bulky. I somewhat agree but I still got a bigger screen :)

For starter, better battery life. My personal feeling is, anything larger than 15" or so is just too big to move it around and use it casually.

I have 12" and 14" laptops. I like my 12" far more than 14". It is lighter and easy to move it around.

The smaller the screen the lighter the notebook. If it is true mobility you seek. Go smaller.

I have a Philips x56 Freevents laptop,it has 12.1" screen. This makes it lighter and easy to carry as I need to take it to my business premises. This does not put any strain on my eyes and I use it a lot.
