NEW YORK - President Bush took aim Wednesday at lavish salaries and bonuses for corporate executives, standing on Wall Street to issue a sharp warning for corporate boards to "step up to their responsibilities" and tie compensation packages to performance.

He said some workers are being left behind in the booming economy and the disparity between the rich and the poor is growing.

"The fact is that income inequality is real. It has been rising for more than 25 years," the president said. "The earnings gap is now twice as wide as it was in 1980,"

He said it because he knows that the poor and shrinking middle class out-number the upper classes by an enormous margin. That means VOTES. He thinks that people are so stupid that by him saying this and taking that action, the trolls for the Republican National Committee will have something to defend their party with.

The American public has began to open it's eyes to the fact that the Republican Party represents the ultra wealthy people in the U.S. and serve to exploit the ordinary citizens.

The writing is "on the wall" so to speak. They have to start covering themselves and their arrogance to improve their "image" before the 2008 elections. As things stand now they couldn't get a Republican elected as dogcatcher.

It was all a staged incident for the media and their propaganda.

To the Republican's who read this and thumb me down:

Read Dan. 5:25 - 28. "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN."

Gap between the rich and poor is worse then that when you compare the 50s and 60s to today when a family could have one parent stay home if they want and still be able to put food one the table and a car in the driveway of a middle class home. Maybe Bush is admitting that conservative economics are not working and have not been working since Reagan. Trickle down not working fast enough old junior yah.

Because he and the rep. party know how short the peoples memory is. like damaging information all being released on a Friday so that by Monday it was all forgotten.. worked to. He owes it to the republicans know to try to look like he gives a crap about the American public for the next election. They are loosing control of congress and big business doesn't like that. You will now see bush so out of character for the next two years.. You will not believe its the same poison- sorry- person.

Nice posturing but meaning nothing. Not speaking out is just to blur true issues about the state of the Nation. Sounds good, but he has no control over corporate America & they don't give a hoot about what he says. It just make the little guy feel that he is in our corner; nothing could be further from the truth! He has some good speach writers on hand that can spin a nice tale for us, making him look good. You just don't want to look to close!

It's called showboating.

Now that he can't get anything past congress he can rant and rave about things that are problems with this country and then blame the democrats for not doing anything about it and help the Republican ticket in 2008.

If he complained about it when he had majorities in both houses of congress people would expect him to do something about it.

I don't know-but it is none of the governments business what corporations pay to whom. The boards are accountable to the shareholders to justify the exhorbinate salaries. If the investors don't like it--they can invest in a company that pays a reasonable salary.
