I was reading a very nice book recently on the traditions and culture of Bharat. It said that for our houses we should keep a pair of Pratyahari at the front entrance of the house, one on either side of the door.
What would be suitable?
Lions? Elephants.... or something else?

Statues of Elephant or Lion is kept on both sides of at the entrance in temples. In houses they are not kept. For houses they are not very good symbols.
Instead you can ENGRAVE on wood or on the wall, any one of the following and it will be considered as auspicious and good sign.
1. Garland of Flowers - Here you consider the house where you stay as God;
2. Kuttu vilakku - Ornamental lamps - It is the sign of Lakshmi Goddess of Wealth and prosperity.
3. Plantain trees. It is a Davine symbol.
Apart from any one of the above on both sides of the main entrance, as our friend had told earlier you can place a Tulasi Plant just in front of the house (if space is available) of even
inside the house.-

I am very much pleased of your interest. I will tell few things best known to my knowledge. As you enter into your house, stick wall-paper of the race-horses to your right side of the wall, that indicates your progress will move fast in leaps and bounds. Keep small poster of Vinayaka (Elephant headed God) facing the entrance. who-ever having jealousy up on you step into your residence will first look at the poster and effects of his bad sight will be mitigated. If mango leaves are available hang them in a row at the top of the out -side entrance door.Mango leaves are auspicious.

in our place,i mean our region it is belived that if you keep elephants satues,your spending will become more,saying is because elephants needs more food and care than others.i dont know about keeping lions.we hindus build thulasithara and plant thulsi on it and worship it daily.they buit it infront of their house,it is considered very good,you can see it even in foreign nations hindu homes,so i think KRISHNA THULASI IS SUITABLE.
