nj spends 500.00 to 2000.00 dollards per person arrested for child support each time there arrested. they can only be held for a set number of days in jail all of which cost the tax payers more money. only to be released with small or no payment made.then there expected to find a job and get their drivers lic. restored in two weeks or repeat the process. i understand the child support has to be payed but this system is a joke and the only people really paying is tax payers. why?

--because the honor system doesnt work, its been proven.

--because the state and federal government are tired of people not paying for their children.

--because the government is tired of paying for people children, so its cheaper to go through ALL of that, then pay for them.

--because there is not "mothers rights"
there is no "fathers rights"
there is ONLY the childs rights; thats what the laws protect.

--because deadbeats hide thier money, and the courts all know the tricks they try (working under the table, running across state lines to avoid child support, hiding until the child is 18, suddenly being laid off or quitting the job, etc).

*the laws now are as follows:

its now a federal offense to run across state lines to avoid child support.

when the child reaches 18, the arrears dont disappear; its forever, even if that child is now getting married, the deadbeat still owes.

no more working under the table, they calculate what deadbeats can make or have made for the child support payment (child support goes by both parents incomes today).

IF YOUR ANGRY ABOUT IT, JUST SEND A THANK YOU NOTE TO EVERY DEADBEAT YOU KNOW; GIVE 'EM A GOOD PAT ON THE BACK... FOR THEY ARE THE ONES WHO CAUSED THE STRONGER LAWS*...from screw'n their own kids.

I think an on-the-spot fine is a possible outcome for this offence (though I'm not entirely sure), however there are two reasons why this might not be possible. The first reason is that the crime might be reported by a member of the public, or caught on CCTV. This would mean the fine couldn't be on-the-spot. The second reason is that if people are commiting this crime, they are often drunk and/or leary and probably unwilling to listen to a reasoned argument from a copper. I think a court appearance and a criminal record is perfectly acceptable for this kind of behaviour. OK, if someone is caught short and has made an effort to hide behind a wall or a tree then it is a bit stern, but in many cases these are people who are blatantly peeing in the street. I once lived in the same house as someone who was caught urinating against the front door of Marks and Spencer. Who wants to clean that up? and who wants to have to use that door the following day? Others have been seen weeing on bus shelters or even against the windows of restaurants while people are eating an evening meal. If that's not anti-social behaviour, what is?

You left out Dads that pay for children who aren't theirs and dads who pay too much for one child. Child support is needed by the parent or guardian but only if it comes from the real father and it should be no more than $500 per child. Women need to get it together and stop using men and the system to make a living. This is another woman speaking!

Nobody ever said democracy is free. We pay a price to have the court system we have. It's upkeep, just like paying our electricity and gas and water and making repairs on our home. The court system may seem a little silly and redundant, but until they are changed, rules are rules....they are made to protect the ones who need the most protection. In this case, the children, who deserve child support. If it costs "us" $2,000 to teach a parent they HAVE to pay and they start taking their parental responsibilities seriously it may be a good investment.
That child IS part of the future generation of OUR nation, so it affects us all.

You can never give up on children. And child support laws are meant to help children.

Any time anybody is incarcerated it costs the taxpayers money. That doesn't mean that the law shouldn't be enforced.
