Am I the only one here who doesn't understand the computer enough to even tell someone what the problem is? All this high-tech jargon isn't helping one bit. I'm allowing my 'puter to be filled up with viruses and worms because I cannot understand one answer!!!!!
I'm too ingorant to know what I'm asking for. I had Trendsomething and it apparently turned off and I do not know how to turn it on again. Everyone shows me how to get to Windows Security, then tell me what I've already done, but nothing is working.

If I am hearing you correctly you have Trendmicro's Trend Micro™ AntiVirus, Look at the time in the lower right hand corner there should be a group of icons. Move the mouse over the one that says Trend Micro™ AntiVirus. Double click on that, and it should open up the program.
Trendmicro's has a free online virus scanner at www.trendmicro.com there is a tab called Free Tools where you can scan your computer for viruses and worms.

You probably mean Trend Micro...they're a software company that makes anti-virus software.
The reason why it "turned off" is most likely because it's subscription based. Meaning, you have to renew your license every year in order for the program to continue getting updates from their definition servers.
You can get free antivirus software from AVG at www.grisoft.com
Also, you may want to look into spyware programs. For free stuff, you can always try to search www.cnet.com in their downloads section.

a good program to start with, its only a temp for 30 days, but its good. it is called the cleaner. if you've been left open for any time, keep the program for the month. it 'is' good.
another thing, avg free. best anti virus 'etc' going.
to watch out for anything changing without your permission, try win patrol. its a goodie too. good luck and good hunting

A couple things to consider before jumping into Vista:
Make sure your Anti Virus solution works with Vista.
Windows Vista's firewall is configured by default to allow all outbound connections. You may want to tighten this down. There are a few specific outbound "allow" rules which you should probably keep enabled (for example for DNS and DHCP). So by default, the outbound firewall comes with "all traffic allowed" + specific "allowed" rules. I know, this sounds redundant, but the idea is to keep your system working even if you switch the default rule to block outbound traffic.
IPv6 will be enabled by default. Make sure your firewall will block it and related tunneling protocols.
Note that Windows Vista will not prevent users (or administrators) from doing stupid stuff ;-). If you know how to secure XP or your current Windows version, stick with it for production use until you are familiar with Vista.
As with all major upgrades like this: Test! Test! Test! Don't implement with haste. Ultimately, this will be a forced upgrade as support for XP will cease at some point. So look at alternatives (e.g. Vista or another OS) in time. Support for XP will be available for at least 12 more months. See Microsoft's support lifecycle policy (appears that you can get XP security related patches at least until 2009. Via extended support, you will likely get security patches for even longer). There has been some talk about "Vista Phishing". Essentially e-mail viruses that will trick users unfamiliar with Vista into downloading and installing malware.

If you don't know enough about your computer to understand our help, take it to someone who does.
Do you try to fix your car yourself even though you have no idea what to do? NO! You take it to a mechanic and say "there's this clunking over here..." and they look at you like you are a moron, and then they fix it.
The same is true with computers. Either spend the time to learn, or pay someone else to fix it.
