I'm meaning the actual name given to the car by the manufacturer. Tonight, on the way home from work, I got stuck in a traffic jam behind something called a Hyundai Terracan!!! Can anyone beat that?

Renault made one called Le Car.... I guess it's so you don't take Le Lawnmower to work by accident.

The Mitsubishi Starion. Despite countless denials by Mitsubishi, Mitsu-fans, and owners of the (quite handsome) cars, it is virtually impossible to rationalize how that could not be a misspelling of "Stallion."

Of course, there's the infamous Renault LeCar, which just sounds idiotic to us anglophones. Imagine it spoken by that cat the Pepe LePew always chased around.

Then there's a whole bunch of others from Japan:
The Mazda Carol Me Lady
The Daihatsu Naked
The Daihatsu Move Latte
The Toyota Funcargo (it had great commercials: FUN! CAR! GO! Funcargo.)
Nissan Wingroad
My favorite insanely long Japanese car name: Mitsubishi Chariot Grandio Super Exceed
Mitsubishi Toppo Town Bee
Mazda / Kia Bongo

And Korea. (Korea really isn't all that bad at this...the Terracan is no worse than a hundred other nonsense names):
The Hyundai Tuscani. That's the KDM name for the Tiburon (the current generation, at least). What the ****. That car is so un-Italian.
The Daewoo/Pontiac LeMans. This car has no business being within 100 miles of a LeMans event.

And oh boy....there's the mother lode, China:
The Geely Beauty Leopard
The Geely Urban/Rural Nanny
The Chery Flagcloud
The Chery Windcloud
The Chery Oriental Son
The Chang Feng Black Giant
The Great Wall Deer
The Great Wall Sailor
The Great Wall Socool
The Great Wall Coolbear
The Zhongxing Gold Lion

Also, the Toyota Camry doesn't seem all that dumb, but if you put it in context it is kinda goofy. It's an anagram of "My Car." This phrase is still common among people who were in the typical age group to be buying their first cars at the time that car ownership exploded in Japan. (the 70s and 80s) The Camry came out towards the end of this period.

That Nova thing is an idiotic myth. Mexicans aren't that stupid.

If I have to pick one, it'd be the Beauty Leopard. Oh, and it isn't beautiful at all.

Catwalk: Most of those aren't real. Show me a picture of a Pantryboy Supreme. The only search results are "lists of silly car names." The Sambar Dias is real. I cannot confirm the existence of an "astonish" trim level. (None are currently for sale on Yahoo Japan Autos, and there are no search results for it)

To be honest, with the Japanese names, they just don't translate well into English. Other manufacturers probably don't do enough research, I'd guess!

Nissan Stout
Mazda Bongo Friendee
Daihatsu Pantry-Boy Extreme
Hyundai Scoupe
Isuzu Big Horn
Nissan Cedric
Wartburg Knight
Nissan Leopard J. Ferie
Subaru Sambar Dias Astonish
Suzuki Every Joy Pop Turbo
Mazda Autozam Carol MeLady
Ford Country Squire
Mazda Proceed Marvie Will Breeze
Volkswagen Tiguan
Ford Edsel
Toyota Estima Lucida G Luxury Joyful Canopy

(They are ALL genuine models, by the way...)

When it comes to bizarre car names, I don't think anyone can beat the Japanese. My personal favourites are (and these are unbelievably real):

Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard

Mitsubishi Mum 500 Shall We Join Us

Yamaha Pantryboy Supreme

Subaru Sambar Dias Astonish!! (Those !! really are part of the name).

I quite like this name, but the Mitsubishi Starrion is so called because the japanese boss called up mitsubishi UK and personally told them what to name the car in Europe. He actually said "Stallion", but his accent made it sound like Starrion!
