Would you buy a hand crochetted carrier/sling or do you think it would be unsafe? What about if it had straps to keep the kid in?

I would be a little concerned about the safety of a hand crocheted carrier/sling. Otherwise I think baby slings/carriers are great. I actually wish I would've had a baby sling when my son was born. I got one when he was about 2 months old and it worked wonderful in that it really helped him to fall asleep and I could have two free hands for a little while, but he quickly outgrew it.

I think you should only use carriers that spread the weight of the baby over both shoulders. Then again I have neck problems so I have a better understanding about how delicate the back is.

I have no problem with a crochetted carrier, obviously if the design is safe. Bur crochetted doesn't bother me.

Carriers are great. Slings..those are another story. How would you like to be trapped in a giant piece of fabric? At least in a carrier the baby can be upright and see what's going on around him/her.

Plus, slings look so unsafe. I don't care how safe they say they are. I've seen them in use before--If the kid would have just leaned a little more to the side he would have flipped out onto the floor.

I had a baby snuggie for my son an my son and I both hated this thing. I just thought it was a pain, because I still couldn't do anything around the house that I needed to do. I thought this thing was a waste of money in my opinion. I got a lot more use out of the bouncy seat and swing then I ever did with the carrier.

I personally use a sling because it offers comfort to my baby and allows me to do things around the house and outside as well. Not only it is safe, but a sling can help sooth the fussy and colicky baby. Most importantly, it promotes bonding. Another advantage is that you can put your baby in several different positions (something you cannot do with a carrier).

Many cultures throughout the world carry their babies in homemade slings.

*These are some of the benefits:

Sling babies cry less
Sling babies learn more
Sling babies are more organized
Sling babies get "humanized" earlier
Sling babies are smarter

Id stay away from crochetted. Dont think it would be comfy or safe. Want something with padding. Plus I would think the yarn would stretch.
