I got a letter stating my lease has been renewed at my apartment and the new amount is $100 than I currently pay!! I know it is a mistake, but what should I do?

Would you pay the new, lesser amount, or let the office know they made a mistake?

If you have signed the lease then your lease is $100 less, if you haven't signed the lease, then sign it and you're rent is $100 less. If it's just a notice, then I'd contact the office to see if it was intentional or accidental.

The most critical thing is if THEY also signed the lease. If it's just a notice, it is likely just a clerical error that you can't do anything about, but if it is the actual lease and the amount is changed, there is nothing they can do but honor the new amount. It all depends on if it is the lease or a notice. A notice with a mistake isn't binding, but a signed lease is binding.

Hmmm... this happened to me as well.. but not by $100, but $15. I didnt say anything because it is their mistake and I have heard once in a while an apartment complex will give you a deal for being a good tenant. I also upgraded my apartment a month later so I really didnt gain any $.

The sucky part is if you mention the mangement they will most likely hike up your rent with out a "sorry about that". Perhaps sign your lease, pay the 1st months rent early with the new amount and see where it goes. If by chance they catch it then you have covered your grounds and will just have to pay the difference.

But honestly, you should probably call them and see if there is something diffrent with your agreement - perhaps you have to pay for extras you didnt before. Good luck!

The upstanding moral, honest thing to do is call the office and confirm their intentions. Could you probably get away with this? Yes. Would most people sign the lease and return it and not bat an eye or feel any contradiction in doing so? Probably. This is the sad state of affairs in our society today.

A deal is a deal, but people who take advantage of others only breed resentment and contempt. I would do the upstanding thing, call this to their attention and pay what had honestly been negotiated. To me, this is similar to paying a lower restaurant tab when you know the waiter made a mistake and left something off the bill. In that case, most waiters have the difference deducted from their paychecks.

If the lease is typed and ready to sign once you sign it they are obligated to honor the amount. I personally would point out the error because if they catch it later they will be pretty upset about your rate and probably add 200 to your next years lease. They probably intended to tell you your rent went up $100.. But if you don't plan to stay longer than a year go for it if your moral values don't restrain you from taking advantage of human error. I couldn't but I'd love to. Apartments are over priced anyway. GOOD LUCK

Just by asking the question, I can tell you have a good heart. Don't mess up your good conscience just yet hun.

I'd pay the amount I'm supposed to, and let the office know about the mistake.

I would call the office, just cause they made a "mistake" it doesn't mean they can't turn around and get the money from you one way or another. Somehow those people always win. Don't play games with someone that knows how to play them better.

Go talk to the manager at your apartments where you live,they are supposed to give you a 30 day notice before your lease expires, so they can't raise your rent without your signature.

You didn't state in the main line if it went up or down.

I am assuming it went down in the letter, since I live with you and all, I say we sign a lease all jack bauer like.

Let the office know, i wouldn't pay $100 more, hell i wouldn't pay any more then i had to. In a year or two money is going to be hard to come by, save what you can
