I am going to say this and hope that you listen very carefully to it. Pedophiles choose to do what they do. If they were molested as children they would not want to inflict that kind of pain on someone else. If anyone says different, they are lying. I know that most people who are violated as a child, they remember what that pain for the rest of their lives. Pedophiles are just sick people who try to make excuses for their sick behavior. Bottom line, they like what they do and that's why they do it.

At the 2000 San Diego Conference of the American Psychological Assoc., it was decided that it is a sexual orientation, just like homosexuality and all the others. This is the same manner that the decision was made on homosexuality, back in the 70s. Six months later, the U.S. Congress ordered them retract the statement, or lose government funding, which they did.

The question to wonder about is if this is found to be a genetic disorder, than should parents be allowed to have it treated and corrected, or does the child have a right to the sexual orientation that they were born to be?

I imagine that if the day comes when we can say accurately that sexual orientation is genetic, based on empirical evidence, it will cause quite a shakeup in society.

I am not a doctor, but it is extremely difficult to change a pedophile. That leads me to believe that it may be the way they are born. To have sex with someone who is not old enough to give informed consent is the problem.

I think you asked a question that is open to a lot of debate. Are we products of our genetics or our environment? Perhaps it is both. Their genetics may make them predisposed to deviant sexual behavior. Perhaps how they were raised then contributes to the risk factors. Then, they just begin (small at first) and it snowballs into full pedophilia.

i believe that it is the result of our society simply tolerating it and letting them off the hook for their crimes which is why they are
that way. in some countries, the punishment for raping a child is death. if we were to do the same, then we wouldn't have such a problem

Sexuality, both normal and aberrant, is formed largely through early childhood experiences.
