Does alcohol bring out the real person. After I have a bottle of wine I despise my husband and plot to b*gger off to London the day after and never come back. When I sober up the following day, I decide to stay even though I feel trapped

It does not bring out the real person, but I believe that it does tend to exaggerate a pre-existing feeling by relaxing inhibitions. Lately, it seems, "inhibitions" has a negative connotation, but we almost always have them for very socially appropriate reasons. Please put down the wine one evening and have a long discussion with your husband, including revealing to him your fantasy about buggering off to London and why you have that fantasy -- I feel sure he will sit up and take notice.

They say "in vino veritas"--in wine is truth. What that means is, if you drink sometimes it lowers your inhibitions and you let your real feelings show. But I would think it's just the unhibited person...the "id" if you like.
If you feel trapped when sober...maybe you really do despise him. take a long, hard look at your marriage when sober and decide where it's heading.

No, alcohol impairs brain function, and most people behave like spoiled, undisciplined children if they've had too much.

The only way it brings out "the real person" is if you are a non-stop drunken fool.

As for feeling trapped, quit drinking and start thinking about why you feel that way after the withdrawal passes.

Geez.

I don't know about bringing out the real person, but it's certainly liquid courage.
If you have to get drunk to tolerate him, then sober up to feel trapped, why not get out of the marriage?

alcohol does bring out the beasties in people. Makes em brave and do things they normally surpress. If your feeling that way I think you may want to examine your relationship, cause it clearly isn't for you. I think you have hidden desires to flee and grab another brass ring. And if that is so, do it and don't waste your life on a relationship that enslaves you. Life is too short for that.

Alcohol does cause a person to lose their inhibitions. It's probably a clue of what you really want to do but are too chicken to pursue when sober.

Alcohol does tend to at least give the excuse to do what you would like to (removes some of the inhibitions). So yes you could say that it exposes the real person.
